Announcing Biddle & Webb’s qualified Gemmologist, Jennifer Pardoe

I should have known from my penchant for everything sparkly that I was always destined to work in the world of jewellery. I am extremely grateful to Biddle & Webb for giving me the opportunity and support to study my Gemmology qualifications with the Gemmological Association of Great Britain.

Now as a qualified Gemmologist it is enjoyable to reflect on the journey as the course is full-on, incredibly scientific but also tremendously rewarding.

The subject of Gemmology covers how gemstones form to how they eventually get set into jewellery and sold to customers. The depth of the course is not to be underestimated. We learnt about crystal formation, identifying features, geology, synthetics, treatments, how to use specific equipment and that’s just a few of the topics. This knowledge was needed for the two theory exams and applied in the practical exam where we had to identify numerous gemstones (this is not easy in an exam environment with your hands shaking and gemstones pinging all around the room!). Gemmology is a subject, similar to many other fields, in which I will continue to learn daily. I look forward for the journey yet to come as I am now undertaking the Diamond Diploma!

I have been at Biddle & Webb for almost four years, three of those conducting jewellery valuations. As our jewellery section grows from strength to strength, my FGA qualification is another string to our bow in order for us to offer a complete in-house valuation and identification service.

Do you have an item of jewellery you are looking to sell or have valued? Call me to have a chat, as well as verbal valuations we also conduct written probate valuations too. Please contact me via the information below to discuss.

I look forward to hearing from you!
