aLot: 8  – A 1960s Cartier 18ct yellow gold novelty bear brooch, designed as a bear wearing a necker

chief, set with a sapphire cabochon eye with surrounding eight-cut diamonds and a ruby cabochon nose, one ear stamped ‘S CARTIER’, the other stamped ‘L86?6’ (rubbed), hallmarked London import for 1964, with makers mark JC, brooch measures approx. 3.5×2.5cm.

PROVENANCE: A gift to the vendor from the personal collection of Lady Diana Delamere, (1913-1987, formerly Diana Caldwell), a socialite of the 1930s/40s living in Kenya at the heart of what came to be known as the Happy Valley set. Lady Delamere’s life was highly publicised after the murder of her then lover, the Right Honorable Josslyn Hay, 22nd Earl of Erroll, and the trial of her then husband, Sir Jock Delves Broughton. These events were later the subject of James Fox’s book ‘White Mischief’, and dramatised in the 1987 film of the same name, starring Greta Scacchi as Lady Diana and Charles Dance as the Earl of Erroll.

Lot: 15 – An diamond and emerald ring, set with a central round brilliant cut diamond, measuring approx. 5ct, the tapered shoulders set with eight-cut diamond accents and rectangular cut emeralds, set in unmarked white metal, ring size V.

Lot: 31 – A matinee length double string of graduated pearls, largest diameter approx. 8mm, smallest approx. 3mm, with an emerald and diamond set cluster design clasp, set with an octagonal cut emerald, measuring approx. 9x8mm, surrounded by a border of twelve old cut diamonds, in unmarked white metal.
