The most recent wine sale took place on Thursday 7th March. With over 160 lots this was our biggest sale in over twelve months achieving a 100% sold rate and with consignments from our private vendors all exceeding their estimates. Highlights were the performance of the assorted vintage ports and the classic Bordeaux wines including Chateau Latour, Lynch-Bages, Talbot and Dow and Taylor vintage port from the 1970’s.
For buyers, wine auctions afford the opportunity to buy assorted varities or to explore a particular region in depth. The broad selection of wines mean we have something for every pocket, we offer smaller sized lots for home drinking right up to pallet size offerings for the business buyer; in addition it’s one of the most efficient ways to acquire interesting bottles of older vintages. With regard to vendors our clients include large logistics companies, wine merchants and of course a growing number of private vendors looking to either completely clear or simply tidy up their cellars. As well as a full range of wine and Champagne we also offer a wide range of spirits. Gin has been a big growth area over the last couple of years in line with general market trends, but individual bottles of whisky particularly single malts and Japanese always sell well as do Cognac and Armagnac.
Our wine auction is currently held quarterly, but increasing demand may mean that the frequency increases. Currently consigning for our next sale, please contact wine@biddleandwebb.com if you would like a valuation or to submit your wine or spirits for inclusion.
